Every course of treatment starts with a 45-minute initial assessment to assess your symptoms, then recommend the right plan for you and begin treatment. Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes. Your physiotherapist will advise how many appointments you will need but you can stop treatment at any time. *Treatment price does not include specialist pelvic health physiotherapy appointments.

Physiotherapy is a profession whose aim is to encourage and support the return to normal following illness, surgery, disease or trauma. It can be effective in the treatment of a range of muscle, joint and nerve conditions.

Physiotherapists at Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital use a wide range of techniques such as manual therapy and exercise prescription to maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease.

We can offer expertise in upper limb and hand rehabilitation, pain management programmes and post-surgical recovery. Many of our therapists are also trained in pilates, acupuncture and joint manipulation, carrying out thorough biomechanical assessments to enhance and optimize function.

We have strong links with many orthopaedic consultants and have an excellent track record in the rehabilitation of upper and lower limb sports injuries. In addition we can offer pre and post natal treatment and advice as well as vertigo and balance rehabilitation with our vestibular specialist.

What happens if I have to cancel or change my appointment?

Appointments carry a £20 charge if they are amended or cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment start time, or if you fail to attend for your appointment.

Helen qualified in 1991 after completing her physiotherapy training at Teesside Polytechnic and she also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Practical and Academic Sports Physiotherapy at London Medical College in 1995.

She worked for 11 years in NHS hospitals in a wide range of specialities, but focusing mainly on orthopaedic /musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, including seven years working in GP surgeries.

Helen joined Nuffield Health in 2008 and she actively participates in continuous professional development attending specialist courses and training to keep up-to-date with evidence based physiotherapy practice and she is part of the manual handling training team  for the staff here at Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital and the triage team.

She has a special interest in treating sports injuries, musculoskeletal conditions including back, neck pain, knee and shoulder pain, and post-operative orthopaedic and joint replacement patients.

Joanne qualified in 1987 from Sheffield University and has worked for 15 years in the NHS where she specialised in acute musculoskeletal injuries and post-orthopaedic surgery, before joining Nuffield Health in 2002.

She regularly attends post graduate courses to update her skills and ensures evidence based practice. She is also qualified to practice acupuncture as an adjunct to her manual therapy skills.

Joanne is very experienced in treating a wide range of conditions, including sports injuries, shoulder, knee problems and spinal conditions.

Sandra qualified in 1984 having trained at West Middlesex University Hospital (London) and after working in the NHS she joined Nuffield Health in 1996. She has 21 years of experience working in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Sandra strongly believes in the importance of continuous professional development and has completed post-graduate courses in manual therapy and also attained a Master’s degree in physiotherapy in 2001.

How can I help you improve your health?

Fozia qualified in 1986 at The Prince of Wales School of Physiotherapy North London. She initially worked in the NHS in Orthopaedics and Rheumatology. Fozia joined Independent British Hospitals now known as Spire Washington and was Head Physiotherapist there for 5 years before joining Nuffield Health in 1995.

She is currently Senior Inpatient Physiotherapist and runs a Total Knee and Hip Replacement Education Session every Friday for patients scheduled to come in for surgery.

How can I help you improve your health?

Andrew has worked for Nuffield Health for over 6 years and has a wealth of experience in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal physiotherapy. He specialises in sports medicine, having completed an MSc in this discipline in 2018.

Working closely with Dr Paul Catterson, Andrew operates a regular sports injuries and performance clinic at the hospital to help support both elite and recreational level athletes to recover from injuries and fulfil their performance goals. Having a long history of working with long-distance runners, he is particularly well experienced in the diagnosis and management of lower limb sporting injuries.

In addition to this, he is also skilled in providing acupuncture, manual therapy, myofascial release, sports massage and exercise therapy.

She regularly attends courses to update her skills and is qualified to teach Pilates and perform acupuncture as an adjunct to her manual therapy skills.

Jo's specialist interests are sports injuries (adult and adolescent), back and neck pain and rehabilitation after surgery.

Jo also specialises in the assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction relating to bladder and bowel disorders that affect women. Her clinic at Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital includes the assessment and treatment of patients with continence problems, pelvic organ prolapse, constipation and pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain.
